Croatoan Reaction

WHERE IN HELL IS THE SOUNDTRACK??? *koff* Anyway.

Kripke is a freaking cruel plot-tease. Not that 'no big secret reveal before the winter hiatus' wasn't called by everyone and their duck, but seriously, it's getting like the boy who cried wolf out here. If the opening scene of Dean and Sam in January is either Dean getting KO'd by what's his nose possessed guy, or even worse, they don't say what the secret is and Hunted starts out after Dean has told Sam and just has the reaction and effect.... I'm gonna hafta bite something.

Most annoying thing ever is that the commercials and the "Soon" basically gave the entire episode away. Grr. I could have written it out beat for beat just from having seen the "Soon". Well, except for the blood phone, hee.

Some reactions/observations:

-Dean being protective by doing the hard things (shooting possessed woman) so Sam doesn't have to. *whimper*

-Bounced up and down at the road block. Not nearly enough Metallicar screen time though. They showed it all in the "Soon".

-Was that not a 'Young MacGyver' shout out for Jared, the making explosives out of medical supplies? Hee!

-Dean telling everyone else to go and staying with Sam and the whole, tired, don't wanna do this anymore. *HOWL* And Sam with the "Give me my gun I'll do it, save yourself" *HOWL* I'm a sucker for nobility and stuff like that.

-The townsfolk just disappeared my freaking foot! There's an entire town worth of brand new potential disease vectors out there, unless part of the clean up mentioned by Duane is "the infected explode after 12 hours, leaving no trace except for a meaty pink fog"

-"It's not that kind of call" - Oh HOLY FREAKING CRAP YEAH! Hahahahahahaha! I thought that kicked ass, but I loved Meg and had the same reaction when she did it. Wondering where he got the throat-slitter and bowl from, but I guess it was on his 'fishing trip' which was a total ruse to get him out of the way until his viral symptoms went away. Uuuunless he was the one that started it (duh, me) and had been like that for a while.

-Apparently it takes practice to use the blood-phone, coz there's buddy shoving his whole hand in the bowl like a total 'n00b' where more experienced demons like Meg can do it with a fingertip. Like they start out with a 56k modem and have to move up to a T1 connection.

WHOOOOOLE new levels of potential paranoia have been confirmed. Yay! Wish I hadn't seen the 'Soon' though, the ep would have been a lot more interesting if I hadn't seen the episode already.

And scary to think, but my daft theory still holds, kinda.

So... okay... Black-eyed demons are spread as a virus... I'm still saying my lame Demonseed theory could be true, which makes Sam immune because his original Demonseed held, and he can't be possessed twice. The black-eye demons orignating as a virus works into the theory too. Because they are essentially 'born' on the earthly plane, they'd get a certain immunity to stuff that normal, 'fight their way put of the pit' demons have to worry about (holy ground). Can still be exorcised (eg Meg) because they are still a possession case, and are hurt by holy water...

Ooo. SO here's another theory. Black-eye demons from the virus have a life cycle, like a parasite. Starts as a virus, signs go away in the blood when the demon hatches, becomes a full possession. As time goes on, the demon continues to develop, eventually developing 'black smoke' properties, finally becoming able to sustain itself outside of a host (Phantom Traveller) Hm. From there... Hm.


(This paragraph involves my scant understanding of Joseph Campbell's Hero Cycle. Please skip it if you don't like Joseph Campbell.) All of Dean's 'Don't want to do this anymore' fills me with absolute joy. The way I see it, Sam and John had their 'Call to adventure' in the form of the women in their lives being gutted, pinned to the ceiling and set on fire. I was kind of pouting abut Dean never having gotten a 'Call to adventure' and subsequently getting officially launched on his Hero's Journey. It's just been what he does. But now, he's showing signs of 'refusing the call'. I had thought maybe his critical incident would be John's death, but if that were the case, he'd have been past the refusal stage already. John's 'big secret' is in some way a 'call to adventure' for Dean, one he is still refusing. His critical incident is yet to come. However, odd as it may seem, a call to adventure for Dean would be a call to join the mundane, non-hunting world, and eventually achieving balance between both. Bleh. Now I'm just blathering.


Anyway. Stuff to think about maybe.
