Fandom: "The Week After Christmas"
This is a bit of daft poem thing I wrote regarding the lack of re-runs during hiatus and the assorted fandom reactions thereto. Tongue firmly in cheek as I put words in everyone's mouth with no concrete references anywhere. I'm really nervous about posting this...

With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore, the CW Network, Supernatural fans, Smallville fans, probably Dr. Seuss, and anyone past present or future who may in any way be offended by anything in this bit of doggerel. Intended only in fun distraction. Please, please don't kill me! :-D

The Week After Christmas
by CaffieneKitty

'Twas the week after Christmas, and Thursday again,
and Supernatural fans both women and men
turn to the CW at nine (or eight) local
to watch the repeat, but lo, us poor folk'll
get quite a shock, for the schedule plain
says that the Winchester boys won't be seen again
until January eleventh, and the fans cry "Oh dear!
Does this mean we won't see our boys 'til next year?
Not even a re-run? But that's simply cruel!"
And they turned to the Network to explain the new rule.

"It's nothing to worry," the CW said,
"We're going to have lots of Smallville instead!
With Clark and with Chloe, with Lois and Lana,
And Jimmy and Lionel and Lex and, uh, Martha.
And Oliver Queen, the new guy on the screen,
and all the young heroes betwixt and between,
like the robot, the fish guy, and the one who was fast
and everyone else who we've met in the past.
We need those two thursdays, we really do need them
to promote the new episode, you'll have to concede them."

"For watchers of Smallville," fans said, "that's just great!
But what about us, do we all have to wait
through this cold hiatus with nary a morsel
of SPN goodness to watch? Oh, of course we'll
re-watch tapes and TiVos, but that's not the same.
What about watchers who're new to the game?
They'll need to be caught up on all the old stuff
before the big secret, the 'THEN''s not enough!"

"iTunes!" said CW, "Go there and you'll find
every episode yet, and if they're far behind,
they can buy Season One. It's really not hard,
to catch up on plotlines. No one will be scarred
by the absence of re-runs of such a new show.
Smallville's been around a lot longer, you know."

"But not all can access your content," fans said,
"If you're not in the US, iTunes thinks you're dead.
The Canadian fans thought that they might be spared,
hoping the show on their local feed aired,
but they too are denied, and most cruelly and vexing
it looks like some won't even get any Lexing!
Directions to iTunes for them are quite useless
the licensing laws of the 'net are quite ruthless
so that no international fans can access
any episodes up there. Oh, what a mess.
And besides," said the fans, "you're missing the point.
We want to bring in more new fans to this joint.
Casual viewers might lose track of the show
switch over the channel, to 'Grey's Anatomy' go!
You could have it on later, we'd watch it at 10?"

"Our local affiliates take over by then."

"What about Saturdays, what about Sundays
What about Fridays or Wednesdays or Mondays?
Even Tuesdays we'd watch!" But the network just smiled,

"We can't pre-empt other shows, no matter how riled
you fans get, it's just something that we have to do.
It's nothing personal; it's not against you."

"The fans of Supernatural already feel slighted
about its promotion, on this we're united.
We love our program. We want it to last.
We understand life-spans of shows can be fast,
but we want this one to be on air for years."

"Don't worry so much, and please hush your fears.
It would take more than this to damage the show
just calm yourselves down and before you know
it, the show will be back on, new episodes galore
and lots of new things that you've not seen before."

Though some Supernatural fans were disheartened,
all things considered, two weeks would soon end.
"The summer hiatus was much worse than this
this is nothing!" Although newer fans hiss,

"This is torture, impossible, cannot be withstood!"

"We've survived it before, and we're certain you could.
Sure for two weeks we're without Sam and Dean,
and in those two weeks, things might get quite mean.
Or we could be tough, and weather this crisis.
After all what are we? Human beings or mices?
We'll survive this hiatus, though our nerves will be worn
we'll live through it somehow. We'll just write more po- er... fanfic."

It's wonderful!

I received a link to this post via my Supernatural Google alert. It's so clever! I love the end, especially. :)

Merry Christmas (assuming you celebrate such a thing. :))

*wild applause*

Brilliant!

Can I tell you how much I love how you rhymed "morsel" with "of course we'll"?

The last line made me burst out laughing. :)

*blush* Thanks for the detailed comments! I'm really glad the last line made you laugh! I was worried people might take it as a slam, since I only write gen-fic, so I'm glad it works as intended! :-)

Eep! Really? Heh, yeah, sure, if you want to, go ahead and send them a link to the page.

I doubt they'd link it in the blog, but maybe the person who triages their e-mail will get a chuckle out of it. :-)

Wow. That's seven kinds of awesome.

LOL at the last line, and the rhymes are genius.

Thanks!

Hee! Thanks! I don't normally rhyme poetry and I know some of them are stretching the definition of rhyme a little, so I'm glad you liked them!

This was all kinds of awesome! Had me giggling all the way through, and I'm in love with the clever rhymes.

Heh. As one of said newer fans, I find myself strengthened by this.

Hehe, happy to provide encouragement in these dark hours :-) Think of it as a chance to gather an arsenal of coping mechanisms for use during the dread Summer Hiatus.
