Criminal Minds 10/21/09 episode, teeny little reaction.

Most of episode: Okay, yeah, case, wow, whatever, but wtf is going on with Hotch? o.O

Last few minutes, post-case, in order:
-OMG NO!!
-OMG WHAT?!
-Oh, wow. Oh wow...
-*wee bit of a wibble*
-Thank fucking GOD he didn't pick Rossi.

Morgan. Seriously. I never even saw that coming, and I should have. He's the heart of the team, and putting him in the team leader position is the only thing that might get them all through this while Hotch isn't in charge. Anyone else in the role of team leader might garner bitterness and resentment on Hotch's behalf. And as I understand it, Hotch isn't leaving the team, he's just stepping down as team leader, so the team isn't breaking up at all.

I'm going to have to start taping this show, dammit. I need more tapes.

Remember back in that "Revelations" two-parter when Reid was kidnapped by the MPD Unsub? How Reid was able to communicate with Hotch, by sending him the message quoting that Bible passage that he thought Hotch was a "narcissist" -- because both he AND Hotch knew that that was NOT one of Hotch's dominant qualities? I think the continuity fairy strikes again. Yes, Hotch is smart enough to know he's not at 100% with the whole threat against his family thing going on. And he knows that politically speaking Morgan is getting some favorable eyes on him from TPTB. So it's logical, not to mention the fact that obviously Morgan must be qualified to handle the job, or else regardless of everything he wouldn't get the rec from Hotch. But this is still blowing my mind... I think the reaction from the team is going to be complicated. Just because they love and respect both Hotch and Morgan... this is still a sort of cluster bomb that will challenge them in their set perceptions of roles and leadership issues, yes? Maybe? I think so, anyway. I know I can think of someone as being "qualified" without actually marrying that to "being" the position, you know? And vice versa. How do you deal with a demoted Hotch? Someone you think of as your superior but who is now technically your ... what, equal? My brain is blown, I think. :)

Oh, absolutely. But Morgan... gnh! Can't put it into words. He gets emotionally involved, the cases get to him, and in the role of team leader that's going to be painful to set aside. I don't know that I want him to become a harder person to cope with the strain. But I don't want him to break. I want the team to have his back unconditionally, but I'm sure there's going to be some quibbles and adjustments where they have his back, but not quite on the emotional level he will need. And Garcia, I just... Gaaaaah! All I have right now is gaaaaah! *flails*

I think the reaction from the team is going to be complicated.

To say the least! Hell my reaction is complicated and I'm not even in the fandom. I don't know whether they're going to go for a "Morgan's the leader, but Hotch is still the guy in charge" perception for some of the team, or what, and how that's going to effect things. I don't know how everyone's going to react and I want to know now!

Also... that thing at the start, with Hotch and JJ, in light of the end... does it seem maybe that he was sussing her out, whether she'd be up to being team leader, or how available she'd be in support capacity? Something seems weird about that scene in retrospect, a bit too much to it to just be her there to observe that discussion with the chief. I don't know. I see plotting in everything, so I doubt that was anything more than what it was.

Gaaaaah! This show is gonna suck me into fandom yet!

My brain is blown, I think. :)

Me too! XD

Hmm. Good question. Maybe it was solely for the purpose of making sure she was "on scene" for the sideways look at the Hotch/Strauss confrontation. OTOH -- Hotch has directly pushed her on her "profiler" abilities before. Maybe he was indeed testing her yet again as another "backup" source that might act as a potential check on Morgan IF Morgan gets a bit off track -- instead of having to be "corrected" by his former boss, it might be easier if a second opinion comes from a different source. I dunno. IS IT NOVEMBER YET!!!

No. I refuse that possibility. Heck, this show is my #1 procedural, and my #2 current fav show on-air. But I have yet to seek out fandom. Comments from my F-list, sure. Fandom in general, no. Although I suspect its fandom is probably quite a bit smaller and more sane than most. :)

That makes sense too. *nods*

YOU MEAN THERE'S A HIATUS????! OMG! *headdesk* At this rate I may have to resort to fic. I don't even have the episodes on tape. Arg!

I have no idea, really. I've seen some crossover fic with Supernatural that leads me to believe there's some decent CM fic out there somewhere. It's still kind of weird to me to think of something not sci-fi or fantasy having a 'fandom' but I'm kind of old school in that regard. XD

Do you have access to the Ion or A&E channels on cable? Those show frequent evening reruns of CM eps. I've been watching some of them, despite the fact that I do DVR onto DVD all current eps for my sister to watch (since her schedule is way more crazy and unreliable than mine).

Naw, I'm in Canada and I've got the cheapest available cable package. I don't even get Fox. :-P

I see it scrolling past on the channel crawl though. One day when money's a little looser I might opt up a tier or two, but it's not feasible right now. :-/

I was thrilled as well, as soon as Morgan got over his initial quibbling about paper work. I think he is the best person for the job, and it will take some adjusting, but be fine in the end. But I was wondering what Hotch would do after Rossi talked to him and here we go. I do love this show too--and not just Reid;)

Reid is an adorable geek, isn't he. I wish he'd get a haircut though, it's getting ludicrous. I like the friendship Garcia and Morgan have, and I really want to know how that dynamic is going to alter under the new circumstances.

He beyond adorable, oh yes. And the hair is becoming its own creature, seriously get a trim bud..lol Garcia and Morgan's brother/sister protective flirty thing might transform a bit yes. It will be fun to watch though as the dynamics change.
