Recs: Sherlock Rec Party!
The Sherlock comm has set up a weekly Sunday Recday. These are just my recs so I can link this post to theirs.

FIC

GEN:

Kid in a Candy Store by fialleril
Summary: “I’m very disappointed in the adult world, John. Your brains are even more infantile than I’d thought.”
(Sherlock and John in a sex toy shop, and yes, it's Gen. Poor John.)

The Rebel and His Cause by the_gabih
Crossover: Sherlock/Whoniverse - 'Holmes and Watson are part of the London resistance during The Year That Never Was.'
(This works. Also ow.)

Bored Games by patster223
Summary: Sherlock is bored (BORED) and John decides that they should play Cluedo. In retrospect, it was a truly awful decision.
(Awful for John maybe, delightful to read.)

Aftermath by tridecaphilia
Summary: They were people, even if Sherlock doesn’t care.
(A very cool post-1.03 fic from the perspective of a minor episode-only character.)

Fashion Forward by innie_darling
Summary: Sherlock Holmes, Supermodel
(Not nearly as much crack as it sounds, and an interesting take on Sherlock's clothing habits.)

The Arms of London Bridge by takadainmate
Prompt: John/Sherlock plus tentacles.
(John, Sherlock and a tentacle monster, and yet it's Gen. I can't not rec this. Utter crack.)

'SQUINT'*

From Irene - with love and E-numbers by aheadofthecurve
Summary: In which John compliments, Sherlock masticates and Irene wins, again.
(A *koff* sweet take on the possibility of Irene Adler.)

The Refining Fire, Hide and Seek and Heaven and Hell by arwen_kenobi
Fire can burn things to ashes, but it can also burn things together.
(A massive post 1.03 trilogy of sorts; maybe not massive in word count but epic in scope nonetheless. The first can be read on its own, and is also the set-up for the other two which are alternate perspectives of each other. Whumpage, H/C, pain of many types, and BAMF!Everybody. Mostly.)

The Dying Detective by blackdog_lz
Prompt: A modern rewrite of the Dying Detective, but with a little twist.
("A little twist" indeed. Angst aplenty.)

Paper Chase by sam_storyteller
Crossover: Sherlock/White Collar. Summary: One criminal consultant. One consulting detective. One serial killer. And one perhaps inadvisable bet...
(I have never seen a single episode of White Collar and still found this exceptionally awesome.)

Explosions, Literal and Otherwise by starjenni
Summary: Sherlock does not react well to idea that John might be dead.
(No, he definitely doesn't.)

*Squint = If you look at it one way, it's plain Gen, if you squint, you might see slash or pre-slash.

HET

The Art of Scheduling, or, How Mycroft Came to Realize He was Well and Truly Fucked by igrab
Author's Summary: It suited him, and he assumed it suited her for she'd never given any indication otherwise.
(Anthea/Mycroft. PG-13, there's nookie but it's off-screen *points at subtitle* Indeed.)

OTHER THAN FIC

RECLIST

Fairyd123's Epic reclist
fairyd123 has a lot of really good things on this reclist, some of it's been rec'd in other places, but re-reccing never hurts. There's so much being produced so fast in this fandom, it's impossible to keep up with it all and good things can easily fall between the cracks if people don't speak up and rec.

REFERENCE MATERIAL

the clothes make the man, fashion in sherlock by etanol
A good rundown of the costume and clothing for Sherlock, great reference for fanfic or costuming.

FANVID**

Telephone by burndtlembas
Music: Telephone by Lady Gaga (Feat. Beyonce)
(How often do these characters use phones? This vid was destined to be.)

**-Challenge! I know people are making so many vids and fanmixes for Sherlock and this isn't even a recent one, but due to technical/situational issues, it's rare I can actually watch or listen to any. (And if anyone has a link to that Mycroft to Rhianna's 'Umbrella' one I swear I saw once, I will give you all the cookies.) So! Challenge to take back to the Comm's Rec Party! Fanvids and Fanmixes. Rec 'em if you got 'em!

So, now it's REC PARTY TIME!

If you've seen something amazing that you think more people in the Sherlock fandom should have the chance to enjoy, rec it in the comments at the main Sunday Recday post at sherlockbbc and REC ALL THE THINGS there! (You're welcome to rec in the comments here, but this is just my journal, and your recs will have a vastly wider audience on the comm's new weekly posts.) Fic, art, vids, icons, comms, fanmixes, upcoming challenges, whatever. Rec anything!!!

(And to my regular f-list who are now no doubt very confused, welcome to the madhouse. ^.^)

Ok because I dont' want to play in the big pool, and I feel safer here I will post these on your journal;)

Gamayun Based on Russian mythology. Sherlock/John

Music drabbles, but just brilliant.

Death and John Watson

Warning this one contains references to eating disorders regarding Sherlock. Also, you might want to blow up the font, as it is quite small.

Thanks. I don't know if anyone's going to see them here though. Feels like a ghost town. :-/

Also, you might want to blow up the font, as it is quite small.

If you go to the address bar and add ?format=light to the end of any lj url (after the .html) it will bypass the page's set formatting and make it plain black text on a white background. I have to do this whenever there's moving gifs in the sidebar, or the text is teeny, or the italics are a different colour than the rest of the text, all of which kills my head and eyes.

Thanks for that, I knew you posted it once, and it shall come in handy before I give myself a headache:P I don't mind ghost towns, little tumbleweed watching never hurt anyone;)

And Sam Storyteller is just brilliant I figure. So many talented writers for this fandom, I swear.
caffienekitty From: caffienekitty Date: September 5th, 2010 11:52 pm (UTC) (Link)
Sam Storyteller is the same person who wrote the Torchwood/LOLCats crossover. He's written a lot of stuff for Torchwood too.

Good point, I should read everything, since it is all so well done:) I did read one other Torchwood crossover by someone else that cracked me up, so why not?
malevolent73 From: malevolent73 Date: September 6th, 2010 06:19 am (UTC) (Link)
Great reccs as usual. :) I've read a couple (that near death one was BRILLIANT) and I HAD already read a couple. And, I DO watch White Collar and that fic was FANTASTIC and PERFECT. Thanks for that one. I don't really follow anyone on DW but that author is particularly good aren't they?
caffienekitty From: caffienekitty Date: September 6th, 2010 06:28 am (UTC) (Link)
The fic gets posted to DW, but there's an LJ id for sam_storyteller too, where fic is announced. Very prolific, a lot of Torchwood and Doctor Who, more recently White Collar and Sherlock. I'd friended the ID for the Doctor Who and Torchwood stuff and was quite ecstatic when Sherlock started showing up.
malevolent73 From: malevolent73 Date: September 6th, 2010 06:30 am (UTC) (Link)
I literally just friended their LJ. LOL

I'm still grinning like a madwoman because one of my own fics is on that list, but yeah. Thankyou so much for posting this. The tentacle fic was hilarious and broke my brain into tiny pieces, and I'm mem'ing this list to come back to when I have time to read the rest.
caffienekitty From: caffienekitty Date: September 6th, 2010 05:54 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yours is a very cool story, and probably the first crossover 'Year that never was' fic I've read. I whimpered at one point (guess where) and forcibly reminded myself 'year that never was'. :-)

mmmh, saving this for when I'm not actually overwhelmed with work ;-P

Damn work, getting in the way of fan things.
