Sherlock recs

January First (Running to Stand Still) by sevenswells
Summary: John and Sherlock are taking a little time to recover from the festivities of the holiday season as a new year begins.
(A quiet vingette of some down-time on New Year's Day.)

Somniphobia by thisprettywren
Prompt: "...it shouldn't be normal, should it? Sleep, I mean. One minute you're thinking, your brain's whirring, you're in complete control of all your mental faculties...and the next, you're lost, untethered, unaware and unprotected from everything around you. Just try to imagine it. Try to imagine that in three minutes from now, all your thoughts will just stop, and you'll be completely helpless and vulnerable. You can't. You wouldn't want to. I don't want to. I dread it, every night, and stave it off as long as I can. It fucking terrifies me."
(Some depictions and discussion of drug use. Interesting exploration of a phobia that could theoretically apply to Sherlock's behaviour. Barely squintable.)

In Vino Veritas by sadbhyl
Summary: Beer makes unexpected friendships.
(John starts hanging out socially with the Scotland Yarders.)

A Secret About a Secret by sciosophia
Summary: Would they be beautiful, those things? Would they—unlike the work, unlike solving crimes for pleasure—be beautiful to someone other than John? Sometimes John thinks that Sherlock should have been an artist.
(Explorations of Sherlock's artistic side, via photography.)

Wherein John Realizes that, Yes, Sherlock Does Too. by undrscoredom2nd
Summary: John can't say when his feelings began. But, he can say when They happened.
(PG - Men kissing. A soft quiet little bit of believable relationship development.)

Helpless by ivyblossom on dreamwidth
Summary: John, ever the good doctor, notices something not quite right about Sherlock. Biopsy, diagnosis, surgery, and radiation: Sherlock lives through thyroid cancer treatment.
(R - Sherlock/John. Graphic yet respectful depiction of real world cancer treatments based on the writer's personal experiences with this type of cancer, and written for someone else who was undergoing the same treatment. This is a unique and special work of fiction.)

Colour scheme meme VARIATION 1 by zenyr
(Several scenes restricted to specific colour sets. All PG, just a bit of blood and bare clavicles. Quite amazing, and definitely worth a look! A couple are practically begging for fanfic to go with them.)

If you've seen something amazing that you think more people in the Sherlock fandom should have the chance to enjoy, please rec it at the main Sunday Recday post at sherlockbbc.

Thank you so, so much for leaving these little rec nuggets for me. I mean, I'm sure they're for other people. But for me, personally, I would like to thank you. I look forward to seeing them and reading every week. NEVER STOP. *clings to recs*

I'll try, though it'll get hard to keep up on the reading when tax season gets going next month. They might get a bit sparse between then and the end of April, but we shall see.

I found a link to one of your sets of recs several days ago and have been working through them ever since! I love that you label yours "gen," "squint," and "slash" (and whatever else might be appropriate): I usually want gen but am often happy with squint, and above all I like to know what I might be getting! I've really enjoyed reading many of the fics you rec'd and thought I ought to tell you so at last.

I've also enjoyed your own fics, especially "The Improbably Horrible One" (upon which, I've just remembered, I think I left no comment!).

Thanks! I'm glad you've found them helpful!

As usual, I really appreciate your recs. Thanks so much for doing this!

This is just a small suggestion, but maybe you might want to consider classing "A Secret About A Secret" as something a bit stronger than 'squint,' since they do end up in bed together by the end, though certainly not in a graphic way.

I look forward to these posts every week, thanks again!

Arg. I always screw up something. Yeah, that's a bit more than squint there, I'll shift it.
