Sherlock Recs - CaffieneKittySpace

Sherlock Recs
Another backlog of recs coded! Woo! I don’t seem to be getting any closer to caught up though, because I keep adding more things to the ‘to be read’ file. :-P

Now We Are Six. (Story #2) by diminua
Prompt: Sherlock writes a children's book. Either it goes spectacularly wrong or, actually -- it's a pretty good book.
(Yes, Sherlock writes a children's book. It kind of kicks ass. If my nephew was six instead of six-foot, he'd be getting it for his birthday.)

Can't Stop the Signal by sudipal
Summary: Sergeant Donovan discovers that she has something in common with Sherlock Holmes
(Reccing this very specifically for the people out there who will get the references a hell of a lot better than I did. I still giggled.)

The Shadow Boys Are Breaking and Until the Bandages Came Off by morganstuart
Shadow Boys Description: When Sherlock and John broke that morning, Lestrade picked up the pieces. Now who would pick up the pieces of Lestrade?
Bandages Description: They were broken. Now they're putting each other back together again.
(Two related but semi-stand-alone fics wherein Mrs. Hudson puts Lestrade back together and then puts the boys back together too. Mrs. Hudson is awesome, in case you hadn't noticed.)

Wavering Light by ciaranbochna
Summary/Opening Quote: "The door to the past is a strange door. It swings open and things pass through it, but they pass in one direction only. No man can return across that threshold, though he can look down still and see the green light waver in the water weeds." - Loren Eiseley, "The Snout," The Immense Journey
Caution - if you fear drowning, this might freak you out.
(A poignant little piece of what it is to grow up as Sherlock.)

Leitmotif by ciaranbochna
Opening line: John is a metronome. Sherlock cannot say when he first suspected.
(A lovely poetic view of John's relationship with Sherlock from Sherlock's unique perspective in not quite 200 words. Musical imagery abounds.)

The Curious Incident Of The Dog With The File-Folder by random_nexus
Summary: Sherlock and John are interviewing a possible witness, who's a bit of an oddball and has a rather peculiar dog.
(The crack crossover that was meant to be.)

Knock, Knock by flawedamythyst
Summary: "Knock knock," he stated in a clear voice.
(While taking care of John with the flu, Sherlock accidentally becomes his own "knock, knock" joke.)

Reunions, Rowdiness and Phone Calls by starjenni
Summary: John goes on a school reunion and gets drunk. Sherlock solves some crimes and gets some interesting phone calls.
(John. Out with old school friends, and drunk out of his mind. Oh dear god, so much drunk calling/texting and epic silly in this. *draws hearts*)

*Squint = If you look at it one way, it's plain Gen, if you squint, you might see slash or pre-slash.

You Lead, I Lead, You Follow, I Follow by brighteyed_jill
Summary: John wakes up after a chase gone wrong to find Sherlock watching over him, but he’s a little hazy on the details.
(Injury, fevered hallucinations and dancing.)

Prelude by entangled_now
Summary: "Is there any particular reason I have to be in here while you're having a bath?"

Five Times John Saw That It Was a Very Bad Idea Indeed To Keep Anything He Ever Wanted To See Again in the Pocket of the Blue Raincoat He Bought On Sale Last June, and One Memorable Time He Didn' by shouldboverthis
Summary: I think the title sums it up.
(So very obvious pickpocketing/jealous Sherlock and schmoop.)

A City Without Walls by sidneysussex
Summary: Detective Inspector Lestrade is dying. At the same time, Sherlock is making it worthwhile to live.
Warnings: WARNING for character death.
(Sherlock/Lestrade, PG-13, kissing, cuddling. Contains details of terminal illness, palliative care, grieving. Will likely tear your heart out.)

Theory of Narrative Causality by falling_voices
Prompt: "Sherlock is a well-known fanartist whose online antics always land him on fandom_wank. John's a beloved BNF fanfiction author. They meet at a convention; geeky love ensues."
(Slash, NC-17 in spots? Usually I avoid reccing things that are only on the meme since they are a pain to read with the threading. (ETA: NOW AVAILABLE OFF-MEME!) But this. This must be read. It's... unclassifiable, indescribable, and anyone who's heard of Sherlock Holmes and the BBC series and fandom as a culture should read it. Includes mock Fandom Wank reports, mock holmesian_news Newsletters, mock TV Tropes articles, and has blown several people's minds. So go read it (if you haven't already) and all the nine billion reader comments in between the bits as well, because sometimes they're a part of it too.)

The Sound of Rain and Bees by Alchymyst on AO3
Summary: Five times John fell asleep on Sherlock and one time Sherlock fell asleep on him.
(Sherlock/John, PG13, kissing, innuendo, cuddling. Quite adorable.)

V-Day by hbomb90
Summary: 'It left him cold, because all this garish pomp and circumstance, gilded and overly fluffy sentiment is completely not him, and it certainly isn’t John. He tries to picture John’s reaction upon receiving the teddy bear, and he rather imagines he’d laugh in Sherlock’s face or pull out his gun and shoot the cuddly monstrosity.'
(Sherlock/John, established relationship, kissing, discussions of sexuality. An angsty damaged Valentine-day to all. Issues surrounding prior bad sexual and relationship experiences.)

The Sky for the Reaching by lavvyan
Summary: In which John isn't quite living in a war zone, Sherlock experiments, and Bill Murray (not the actor) wants to get laid. Features also: pins, sponges, the question of whether or not Sherlock Holmes likes to cuddle, nightmares, a case, and seventeen steps. Sequel to Traffic Lights for the Colour Blind
(Asexual!Sherlock/John, PG-13, kissing and cuddling. Oh my god, the adorable schmoop, it burns so damn good. Just read it. You'll never look at a push-pin the same way again.)

If you've seen something amazing that you think more people in the Sherlock fandom should have the chance to enjoy, please rec it at the Sunday Recdaypost atsherlockbbc, because it'll get seen by way more people there!
